About Active Lives!

Active Lives! (Making a difference thru’ sport) offers children and young people the opportunity to develop an active and healthy lifestyle. 

 

The aim of Active Lives! is to help improve participants physical health whilst boosting their mood and energy. According to Great Ormond Street Hospital for Children, regular exercise has a number of benefits for children and young people, including: 

 

  • Improving fitness
  • Providing an opportunity to socialise
  • Increasing concentration
  • Improving academic scores
  • Achieving and maintaining a healthy body weight
  • Encouraging healthy growth and development 
  • Building a stronger heart, bones and healthier muscles
  • Improving self-esteem 
  • Lowering stress
  • Encouraging better sleep

 

A Two-Part Programme 

SYLA will be running the Active Lives! programme in two parts –the first is a Saturday programme during school term and the second is a programme during select school holidays. 

 

Part 1 | Active Lives Saturday Sessions (Age: 9-14 yrs) 

The Active Lives Saturday sessions forms part of our Young Leaders Saturday Academy with two hours dedicated to improving fitness levels, ability and skill across several sports.

 

Part 2 | Active Lives! Holiday Programmes (Age: 9-16 yrs) 

Active Lives Holiday programmes provide SYLA members and non-members with a focused programme of activities centred around sport, nutrition and well-being. 

 

Boys across both programmes will be introduced to a range of traditional and non-traditional sports to help them find a sport that they will love for life!
